Research goals
This research team works on characterizing the impact of climate change (water stress, temperature increase, CO2 concentration) on the production and food quality of cereals (mainly wheat and barley), forage crops (mainly alfalfa and peas) and vineyard. Together with the agronomic characterization, the efficiency in the use of water and nutritional resources, represent another key line of work of the team. Multidisciplinary in nature, the work methodologies of this group encompass the most traditional agronomic characterization with the new crop phenotyping and molecular biology tools.
Facilities:
IdAB-CSIC laboratory is equipped with different (1) gas exchange devices such as: Li-COR 6400-XT and Li-COR. LI-7810); leaf area meters, chlorophyll meters, (SPAD); (2) hyperspectral (FieldSpec 4) and near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS, Oceanoptics) devices as well as spectro-radiometric equipment such as the Greenseeker and Dualex. To carry out the aerial phenotyping study, the department also has a Phantom 4 drone equipped with an RGB camera camera and a multispectral set of 5 cameras that covers the blue, green, red, red border and near infrared bands. In the other hand. IdAB-CSIC is equipped with different chromatographs (FPLC-HPLC-ionic), fluorescence and confocal microscopy devices, together with laminar flow cabinets, culture stoves, -20ºC and -80ºC freezers, vortex, bath, spectrophotometers, optical microscopes, centrifuges, ultracentrifgues, etc. In addition, IdAB-CSIC is equipped with chambers for growing plants, phytotrons and greenhouses. This installation and instrumentation allows working with bacterial cultures and cells in culture. and with instrumentation for RNA quality analysis, RT-qPCR and ELISA plate reader. Also indicate that the biochemical analysis systems (spectrophotometer, high liquid chromatography equipment with several columns for various specific compounds such as sugars and organic acids), amino acids and soluble sugars separation, as well as the quantification of proteomic analysis (ELISA, SDS-PAGE, 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis, 2D). Finally, the Institute is also part of the SIESS Community (Scientific Infrastructures and Equipment Sharing System) of Navarra.
